And the Devil can't stand it...

There is nothing more simple and beautiful than: a Base, Column, Beam and a Pitched Roof all arranged symetrically. And the Devil can't stand it...

Modern Architecture is the opposite of Traditional Architecture

Modern Architecture (MA) isn't a different style of architecture from Traditional Architecture (TA). It is the opposite of Traditional Architecture. TA is mostly symmetrical. MA is mostly assymetrical. TA favors windows that are vertical in nature. MA favors windows horizontal in nature. (ex: "ribbon windows"). TA shows and has support underneath structures. MA likes cantilevers. TA uses trim to to hide joints which creates more detail. MA butts joints together and is minimal in detail. TA creates vertical and uplifting spaces while MA creates horizontal oppressing space. TA respects gravity. MA thumbs it's nose at gravity.

The Composite Order

Learning Classical Architecture: The Composite Order by Vignola.

Drawing done using reference from a youtube channel called: “Architectural Orders” and various other resources.  Measurements are based on the writings of Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola where possible.

To create a measured drawing, use the “Composite modules” found in the drawing.

Learning the Classical Orders is proving to be difficult.  While there is a lot of information out there, I haven’t been able to find a “one-stop shopping” place to find it all. As I learn it myself, I’d like to make all of the information I find available in one place.  Keep checking my website for updates.
